Creative Careers Programs for Young Writers and Musicians with Disabilities

The Kennedy Center’s Access/VSA Creative Careers Programs support young writers and musicians with disabilities by offering professional development, mentorship, and national recognition. Both programs provide financial stipends, exclusive workshops, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

High school students (ages 14–19) can apply to the Access/VSA Playwright Discovery Program by submitting a ten-minute script that tells a compelling story within eight to ten pages. Young musicians (ages 14–25) may apply to the Access/VSA International Young Musicians Program for a chance to perform at the Kennedy Center. Applicants from all music genres are welcome.

Information sessions—Application 101 Webinars—will be held on October 21 for musicians and October 22 for playwrights. The application deadline for both programs is Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
