Brighton railway station in the UK has become the first train station to install a permanent Auracast-based assistive listening system. The system, called Auri, was co-developed by Ampetronic and Listen Technologies and broadcasts public address announcements directly to compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, headphones, and smartphones.
Train stations are difficult listening environments. Ambient noise from crowds, trains, and announcements often makes spoken information hard to follow for people with hearing loss. The Auracast system bypasses that noise by streaming audio straight to a listener's device. The installation at Brighton, a Grade II listed station, used transmitters placed across the station and was completed without disrupting service. Early feedback came from a demonstration event held with the Brighton Hearing Loss Group, where users reported clearer access to announcements.
