The International Association for Hearing Accessibility (IAHA) has established a working group to review hearing accessibility regulations across different countries, identify gaps, and coordinate with local stakeholders to expand access to assistive listening technologies. According to IAHA, more than one billion people worldwide experience some degree of hearing difficulty, yet access to services, information, and entertainment remains uneven. The group notes that rules governing assistive listening systems are applied and enforced inconsistently from one country or region to another.
The launch was prompted in part by the emergence of Auracast broadcast audio and the need for consistent standards as venues and manufacturers adopt it across the world. The working group's stated goal is to assess where current regulations fall short and to support more consistent implementation internationally.
This is an announcement of a newly formed initiative. No specific standards, findings, or timelines have been published yet. The work described is early-stage.
