Phonak has introduced EON, their next-generation hearing aid platform, built around a newly developed processing chip the company calls "HYPERSONIC." The new platform was announced August 24 and is now available for order through licensed hearing care professionals in the United States with Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other markets to follow in September.
According to Phonak, EON combines two AI systems that run in parallel. One, called Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0, uses deep neural network processing to separate speech from background noise in real time. The other, AutoSense OS AI 8.0, analyzes the broader sound environment and determines when to activate different processing features. The company says that the new chip draws 37 percent less power than the previous generation, which allows the device to be made 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter, with up to 38 hours of battery life.
The platform includes three receiver-in-canal models: the rechargeable Audéo EON Sphere, the Audéo EON R for mild to profound hearing loss, and a CROS version for single-sided deafness. EON supports Bluetooth connectivity, including Auracast broadcast audio, and Phonak's Roger remote microphone system.
Performance figures cited for EON come from Phonak's own materials and internal testing rather than independent studies. Phonak's comparative claim that EON outperformed four competitor devices for clarity in noise comes from a company-authored paper that does not identify the four devices.
