University of Auckland Centre Named WHO Collaborating Centre for Hearing Care

The Eisdell Moore Centre at the University of Auckland has been officially designated a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Ear and Hearing Care. This new status grants the center partnership with WHO in tackling hearing loss. The designation links the center to a global network focused on improving hearing health outcomes. The center's director, Professor Peter Thorne, says the role goes beyond research to putting knowledge into practice, especially in areas where hearing services are limited.

The center's work includes the development of evidence-based tools, training materials, and intervention guidelines with WHO. Particularly, in the Pacific region. Moreover, the center works with the Fred Hollows Foundation to screen children for hearing problems, fit hearing aids, and build local capacity.
