ORKA introduced the O1 Pro at the Appliance and Electronics World Expo (AWE) in Shanghai, promoting it as the first receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid to incorporate active noise cancellation (ANC). The company says the device was co-developed with Bose and uses Bose QuietControl ANC technology, the same approach used in Bose consumer headphones. ANC works by capturing ambient noise through microphones and generating an opposing sound wave to reduce low-frequency background sounds like traffic and engine noise.
HearingTracker notes that while ANC in a RIC hearing aid is a novel application, real-world benefit for speech understanding remains unclear without published human outcome data. The article also flags that the structural relationship between ORKA and Bose, and the specific implementation details of how ANC is integrated in hearing aid mode, have not been fully disclosed.
