Rayovac has redesigned its hearing aid battery packaging to address accessibility concerns raised by older adults and people with limited hand strength or dexterity, while maintaining compliance with Reese's Law child-resistant requirements. The updated packaging for the Extra and ProLine ranges features a new opening method and clearer visual instructions. According to Rayovac, independent testing found that 98% of consumers were able to open the pack within one minute on a first attempt. HLAA notes the update as an example of manufacturers responding to consumer feedback.
Reese's Law, enacted in 2022 and implemented in 2024, mandated child-resistant packaging for zinc-air button cell batteries, including hearing aid batteries. The original compliant design required scissors to open and drew widespread complaints from hearing aid users. The new packaging was showcased at the AAA 2026 convention in April, with U.S. shipping expected to begin in late spring 2026.
