GN has introduced two new families of premium hearing aids built on a new AI sound processing platform: ReSound Sensia and Beltone Illuminate. The two lines are sister products that shares similar technology under GN's ReSound and Beltone brands. Both were announced August 10 and became available in the United States, Canada, Germany, and Austria on August 20, with additional markets to follow.
According to GN, the platform combines real-time environmental classification, four-microphone directional beamforming, and Deep Neural Network noise reduction. GN states that the goal of their brands is to identify the speech a listener is trying to follow rather than simply amplifying the loudest voice in the environment. GN describes ReSound Sensia as the smallest AI hearing aid in its category.
Both families will be available in a range of styles, including receiver-in-ear configurations with disposable battery and rechargeable options, and several custom in-the-ear styles. The lines support current wireless connectivity, and a bimodal version is designed to work with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors for users who have a cochlear implant in one ear and a hearing aid in the other. GN also released updated Smart Fit fitting software for hearing care professionals alongside the launch.
Performance figures cited for both lines come from GN's own materials and internal testing rather than independent studies. As with any hearing aid, the appropriate device depends on an individual's hearing needs, and selection is best made with a hearing care professional.
