Legato, a hearing technology startup, announced on October 1 that its AI hearing glasses "Legato Frames" are now available for purchase, starting at $999. The glasses are designed for adults with up to moderate hearing loss and build hearing-assistance technology into the arms of the eyewear rather than using a separate earpiece.
According to the company, the glasses utilizes an AI system that distinguishes voices from background noise and amplifies speech while reducing other sounds, an approach it contrasts with the directional microphones many hearing aids use. The frames have an open-ear design with a dual-speaker system that directs sound toward the wearer, which the company says reduces sound heard by others nearby. Legato states that all processing happens on the glasses, with no cameras or recording. The company positions the product as a response to the cost, comfort, and stigma that keep some people from using traditional hearing aids.
This is a company product announcement, which means that performance claims come from the manufacturer, and independent evaluations were not available at launch.
