Efficacy of Single-Session Tinnitus Educational Counseling: Systematic Review

A systematic review looked at how effective single-session tinnitus educational counseling (SSI-TED) is for managing tinnitus symptoms. Researchers browsed the literature and included five studies with 307 people who got SSI-TED and 190 in comparison groups.

Some studies showed small-to-medium improvements in tinnitus severity and distress at 1-3 months after SSI-TED, and improvements in emotions, frustration, rumination, and social life. There was also one indication of longer-term benefit. However, the evidence did not show significant improvements in anxiety or depression from a single session. The review suggests SSI-TED could reduce tinnitus-related distress in the short term, but stronger, longer-term studies are needed to confirm broader effectiveness.
