FAA Seeks Input from Passengers with Disabilities on Aircraft Evacuation Safety

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched a survey to gather experiences and perspectives from passengers with disabilities regarding aircraft evacuations. The survey is part of a broader FAA research effort required under the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, which directs the agency to study real-world evacuation conditions and to address gaps in current safety standards.

For passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing, aircraft evacuations present challenges that current FAA standards do not fully address. Verbal instructions from flight crew, PA announcements, and auditory alarm signals may not be accessible during an emergency. Your input can help inform whether and how the FAA accounts for these barriers.

The survey is open to passengers with any type of disability and is hosted on a secure federal government platform. If you have colleagues, networks, or partner organizations whose members may have relevant experiences, the FAA has asked that this survey be shared broadly.
