Medicare to Modernize Hearing Aid Service Billing with New Codes in 2026

Medicare is updating how it bills for hearing aid-related services by introducing 12 new billing codes starting January 1, 2026. These new codes replace outdated ones from 1993 and are designed to better reflect the full range of services audiologists provide today, including evaluation, device selection, fitting, and follow-up care. The update aims to make the billing process clearer and more aligned with modern hearing technology and practices.

For now, Medicare hasn’t assigned payment rates to these new codes, which means audiologists could set their own prices or work with private insurers. This could give patients more clarity on what they’re paying for and let them choose only the services they need. The final details will be confirmed by September 2025.
