Infographics: Supporting the Health Care Needs of People with Disabilities

This infographic highlights disability statistics in the U.S. and the challenges people face in accessing health care.

From my perspective, a key issue is the "knowledge gap"—when people have trouble describing their health conditions and medical history due to a lack of clear language or resources. Some clinics offer booklets, info sheets, and checklists, which are very helpful. These resources guide individuals in managing their health, raising awareness, and improving communication about their conditions. What are your thoughts on making health care more accessible for people with hearing loss?

My most successful situation is using a mini microphone that my healthcare provider is willing to wear around their neck. I keep them in my purse so I always have them handy. I also use a brand that will network the mics, so I could put a mini mic around several people in the room, if necessary.  Right now I am buying older technology due to the cost and using Phonak Roger Pens & Phonak Roger MyLinks so that I can do this with my Costco hearing aids -- through my telecoil setting.

I am awaiting the FCC ruling that will require captions when I use video conferencing to connect.
