Pennsylvania Marks 40 Years of the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The Shapiro administration announced the 40th anniversary of the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH), a program within the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry that provides information, advocacy, and referral services for residents with hearing loss. The milestone was recognized during the annual Hearing Loss Expo in Cumberland County, where advocates, service providers, and community members gathered to share resources and discuss accessibility and services for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or DeafBlind.

The announcement also noted technology-related initiatives connected to the state’s vocational rehabilitation programs. According to the administration, the proposed 2026–27 state budget includes a $1 million increase for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to expand access to assistive technology and support services for the DeafBlind community. The expo featured demonstrations of assistive technologies and educational programming focused on communication access and independent living tools.
