Event Information
The American National Standards Institute is holding a free webinar on how consumers can take part in developing product standards. ANSI Consumer Outreach Manager Cleo Stamatos will lead the session, joined by guests from the standards community. The briefing covers what standards development is, why it matters, and how to participate.
ANSI says product standards are developed by thousands of volunteers with expertise in a relevant field, including health professionals, engineers and designers, consumer advocates, people injured by products and their survivors, government employees, testing laboratory staff, academic researchers, and lawyers. ANSI adds that greater participation from individual consumers is important to product safety, and that attendees do not need to be experts.
Accessibility features in consumer devices and communication systems are shaped in standards committees, and those committees depend on volunteers who bring direct experience with the products under review.
ASL interpretation will be provided, and registration is required to receive the Zoom link. ANSI asks anyone who needs a local dial-in number, an accommodation, advance materials, or has a question to contact Cleo Stamatos by email. ANSI also notes that AI note takers will be restricted during the meeting.
